Are we permitted to use the wheels we own or do we have to create new wheels from the parts?

A quick answer to your question is no you have to create your own from the parts. More in depth answer for the reason behind this is that in order. To create a fair competition BEST has given everybody the same parts and those parts are the only thing that you can use. This way money is not an issue for teams sense the kit of parts is provided for free. If you would like to view the compleate rules go and get the rules from the BEST File Maneger located at http://best.eng.auburn.edu/stored_procedures/folder-manager2/folder-auth.php?folder=859&parent_id=1 the password to get into it is located on the last page of the notebook you got from your hub on kickoff.

Here are some examples of wheels our team has made and used in the past. They are all made out of wood that was cut on our CNC. One thing to keep in mind is that you will want some sort of traction on your wheels. In the past, our team has used a variety of methods to gain traction including putting rubber on the edges of the wheels and most recently adding 1/4 inch "spikes" (you can somewhat see them in the second pic) to the wheels for Bugs in 2012 when the game pieces were a solid 2lbs.
